Moving Tips
Clean Out
Pack early
- Heavier items go in the bottom, lighter items on top.
- Don’t mix items from different rooms in the same boxes.
- Label each box with the room it’s destined for & a description of it’s contents.
- Don’t leave empty spaces in the boxes.
- Tape the boxes well.
- Keep your wardrobe on hangers – use large trash bags to keep clothes covered & safe – hang in your new closet and pull the bags off
Pack Night Bag
Pack extra clothes, toiletries, & anything else you may need the first night you move in a separate bag that stays with you and not in the moving truck
Organize
Making a folder or binder with dividers to hold important information before, during, & after the move is a great way to stay organized during a hectic phase. Here’s some ideas for dividers:
- Address Changes (i.e. Mail, Drivers Licenses, Bills, On line Shopping Accounts, etc.)
- Contacts
- Moving Schedule (Utilities, Trash, Painters, & Movers)
- New Bills
- Payments
Make your Bed First
Moving day is exhausting even if movers are doing the heavy lifting. Once your bed is inside, make it. Put clean sheets, comforters & pillows on so you have a place to crash when the long day is over.
