Affordable Moving Online -Tips for Packing Specific Items
As the best moving company in Texas, Affordable Moving would like to share insightful information and tips with our customers in order to relieve the fear that comes with moving. The moving process can be very stressful, so here are a few tips and reminders about packing specific items and preparing your refrigerator. You don’t want to be caught with a full fridge on moving day!
Tips for Packing Specific Items
Wine Bottles
Red and white wine bottles should be packed upside-down or on their sides. That way, the corks will remain wet and prevent oxidation or spoilage. On the other hand, champagne and sparkling wines should remain in an upright position during packing and moving. After the move, you should wait at least seven days to open the bottles. During transport, the movement of the truck can lead to bottle shock, and opening the bottles too soon can result in loss of flavor.
Electronics
Most product manuals include manufactures’ advice for packing and storing devices. You can also consult manufactures’ websites for details on how to best protect your devices. Additionally, it is helpful to save the original boxes and packing materials that your devices came in. If you have already gotten rid of the original materials, Affordable Moving can bring boxes, bubble wrap, stretch wrap, blankets, paper pads, and other supplies in order to protect your devices during transport. Lastly, seal boxes completely in order to prevent damage from dust collection.
How to Prepare Your Refrigerator for Moving Day
Empty The Old Contents of Your Fridge
You should plan to use up everything in your fridge during the weeks leading up to your move. If you can’t eat everything yourself, consider giving your leftovers away to friends or food donation centers.
Defrost Your Fridge 24 Hours Before
After you empty the items in your fridge, unplug the fridge so it has plenty of time to defrost. Place lots of towels on the floor surrounding the fridge to absorb excess water.
Secure Your Fridge for Transport
Once you’ve wiped down the inside of your fridge after defrosting, remove any glass shelves and drawers. In addition, take out all loose parts and wrap them separately for the move. You don’t want anything sliding around or breaking during transport!
Let Us Take Care of The Rest!
After you have cleaned out and defrosted your fridge, you can leave it to Affordable Moving to take care of the rest. Our qualified and helpful movers will be more than happy to load, transport, and unload all of your appliances. We can even help you hook them up! Take advantage of our full-service offering!
